Nest Protect cyber security package

Nest Protect is a managed cyber security package for small businesses and organisations that need better protection for their devices without moving to a full 24/7 security service. It combines next-generation antivirus, automated patch management and ransomware encryption protection, configured and managed by Black Swan Cyber Security Solutions, from £3.99 per protected device per month + VAT.

Managed device protection

Keep devices protected, patched and harder to compromise.

Nest Protect

A practical managed security baseline for smaller organisations that need more than basic antivirus but do not need a full 24/7 security service.

Nest Protect brings together malware protection, automated patching and ransomware encryption protection, configured and managed by Black Swan.

From £3.99 per protected device/month + VAT
  • Block more malicious software
  • Keep supported software patched
  • Watch for unauthorised file encryption
  • Know which devices are actually covered

No hard sell and no automatic upsell. We will tell you if Nest Protect is enough and explain any important gaps it does not cover.

Nest Protect managed device security package

Protect. Patch. Reduce ransomware risk.

Three useful security controls, brought together and managed as one practical baseline.

The problem it solves

Security gaps often appear in the things everybody assumes are being handled.

Most smaller organisations do not deliberately leave devices exposed. The gaps appear because people are busy, responsibilities are unclear and routine security jobs get pushed back.

1

Antivirus is installed

But is it configured properly, active on every device and centrally visible when something goes wrong?

2

Updates are enabled

But devices get switched off, updates fail and restarts or third-party patches can still be postponed.

3

Ransomware protection is assumed

But antivirus alone does not mean every unauthorised attempt to encrypt files will simply disappear.

Nest Protect is about getting those basic device controls out of the "somebody must be checking that" category.

Glitch & Black Swan explain

Give Glitch fewer easy wins.

"An old app, a risky download... I only need an opportunity."

Glitch, looking for something you missed

Nest Protect brings together three controls that make those opportunities harder to find. Next-generation antivirus helps detect and block malicious software. Automated patching closes known weaknesses in supported software. Ransomware encryption protection watches for unauthorised attempts to encrypt files.

Black Swan helps put those controls to work.

We help confirm which devices need protecting, configure the agreed policies and make sure enrolled devices are reporting correctly.

Nest Protect is managed preventative device protection. It does not include a 24/7 team investigating threats and it does not replace backup, email security or identity protection.

What you actually get

The technology matters. So does what happens after it is installed.

Nest Protect is not simply three software licences. Black Swan configures and manages the agreed protection and helps you understand what is covered and what still needs attention.

The technology

Protect the device

The managed service

Know it has actually been put in place

  • Initial review of your current device protection.
  • Deployment and configuration of the Heimdal agent.
  • Configuration of agreed security and patching policies.
  • Checks that enrolled devices are reporting correctly.
  • Help understanding issues that need attention.
  • Plain-English guidance about important risks outside the package.
Managed does not mean monitored by a human 24/7.

Nest Protect is preventative protection. If you need suspicious activity investigated around the clock, we can look at Swan Guard Pro, Huntress Managed EDR or another managed detection option.

What changes for you?

A clearer view of the device security basics.

Know what is covered

Have a clearer view of which devices are enrolled and reporting into the service.

Know protection is configured

The agreed antivirus, patching and ransomware protection policies are actually applied.

See patching gaps

Get better visibility of missing supported operating system and third-party updates.

Know what it does not cover

Get a straightforward explanation of risks that sit outside the Nest Protect package.

Clear boundaries

Nest Protect is a strong device baseline. It is not everything.

That is deliberate. We would rather be clear about what the service does than pretend a £3.99 device package covers every cyber risk.

It does not provide 24/7 human monitoring

Nest Protect does not include a fully outsourced security operations centre or continuous investigation of endpoint and Microsoft 365 identity alerts.

It does not protect every attack route

Advanced email filtering, Microsoft 365 identity monitoring, password management and awareness training are separate controls.

It does not replace backup

Microsoft 365, server and endpoint backup still need to be considered separately where recovery matters.

Choose the right level

Start with the protection you actually need.

The objective is not to push everybody towards the biggest package. It is to understand which problem you are trying to solve.

Is Nest Protect right for you?

A sensible step up when basic or unmanaged protection is no longer enough.

Nest Protect may fit when...

  • You rely on basic or unmanaged antivirus.
  • Updates are left to individual members of staff.
  • You do not have a clear view of which devices are protected.
  • You have roughly 5 to 30 users or devices.
  • You do not have an internal cyber security team.
  • You want a stronger baseline without buying an enterprise security stack.
  • You already have IT support but want additional security expertise.

You may need more when...

  • You need 24/7 human-led investigation of security alerts.
  • Your insurer specifically requires managed detection and response.
  • You need Microsoft 365 identity monitoring.
  • Advanced email security is an important gap.
  • You need tested Microsoft 365, server or endpoint backup.
  • Awareness training needs to be included.
  • Your risk or compliance requirements call for a broader managed service.

Need to watch identities as well as devices?

Huntress EDR and ITDR can add managed visibility around endpoint and Microsoft 365 identity activity. Nest Protect does a different job: it is the preventative device baseline.

Why Black Swan?

Better device protection without changing everything else.

You do not need to replace a trusted IT provider to use Nest Protect. Black Swan can work alongside your existing support company, providing the agreed security controls while they continue looking after day-to-day IT.

We start with what you already have. If Nest Protect solves the problem, we can put it in place. If you already have suitable protection, or you actually need something broader, we will tell you.

Advice first. Tools second. But when the right answer is a tool, we can manage that too.

Common questions

Straight answers before you buy.

What is included in the £3.99 starting price?

The starting price covers the agreed next-generation antivirus, patch and asset management and ransomware encryption protection licences for one compatible device.

Deployment requirements, scope and any additional costs are confirmed before you agree to proceed.

Is Nest Protect managed or just a software licence?

It is a managed preventative security service. Black Swan helps deploy and configure the protection, checks that enrolled devices are reporting and explains issues or gaps that need attention.

It does not include continuous human-led threat investigation by default.

Is Nest Protect a complete cyber security package?

No. It is deliberately focused on device security, patching and ransomware encryption protection.

Email security, Microsoft 365 identity monitoring, backup, awareness training and 24/7 threat monitoring need to be considered separately.

Is Nest Protect better than Microsoft Defender?

It depends on how your existing Defender protection is licensed, configured and managed.

Nest Protect is aimed at organisations relying on basic or unmanaged protection and brings together centrally managed antivirus, patching, ransomware encryption protection and device visibility.

We review what you already have before recommending a change.

Does Nest Protect replace our IT support?

No. Black Swan can work alongside your current IT provider. They can continue supporting users and systems while we provide the agreed security layer.

Does Nest Protect help with Cyber Essentials?

It can support relevant areas such as malware protection, secure configuration and patch management.

It does not guarantee certification on its own because Cyber Essentials also covers areas such as accounts, access control, firewalls and the wider assessment scope.

When should we choose Cygnet Shield instead?

Cygnet Shield may make more sense where people regularly work remotely or use laptops across different internet connections and you want additional protection against malicious web destinations.

It adds DNS web protection to the Nest Protect controls.

When would we need 24/7 monitoring?

You may want continuous monitoring where an insurer requires it, downtime would be highly disruptive, you hold particularly sensitive information or you want suspicious activity investigated outside normal working hours.

In that situation, Swan Guard Pro or a managed EDR, ITDR or MXDR service may be more appropriate.

How many devices is Nest Protect suited to?

It is particularly suited to smaller organisations with roughly 5 to 30 devices, although suitability depends on the environment rather than an arbitrary device limit.

Start with the gap
