Keeping Your Digital Spaces Safe and Secure

When running a business, it’s important to keep your information and networks safe from people who might want to cause harm or steal data. Here’s a few simple ways to achieve this:

  • Fix Weak Spots: Ensure that Windows Update regularly runs to prevent hackers from getting into your computers via the internet.
  • Email Safety: Be on guard for harmful emails that try to trick you into giving away personal information or installing harmful software.
  • Extra Layer of Security: Use something called Multifactor Authentication on all websites, (where possible), to add another step to verify who you are. This makes it much harder for someone else to access your information online.
  • Protect Your Data with Encryption: Ensure Bitlocker is activated to keep sensitive information safe in the event of you losing your laptop.
  • Remove Access for Those Who Leave: When someone leaves your business, take away their access to your systems to prevent unauthorised entry. This could be achieved by deleting their email account and computer or website logins.
  • Use Unique Credentials: Make sure everyone has their own unique login details to prevent hackers from moving freely through your networks. Make sure that any passwords used for personal accounts are not also used for business.
  • Keep Special Access Safe: Create separate accounts for sensitive or important tasks to ensure that even if a regular account is compromised, your most critical systems remain secure.
