Huntress Managed ISPM

Microsoft 365 is powerful. But it is not hardened out of the box.

Huntress Managed ISPM helps find and fix risky identity settings, Microsoft 365 misconfigurations and policy drift before attackers get an easy way in.

For small businesses, schools, care providers and professional firms across Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Sheffield and South Yorkshire, it gives you a managed way to improve identity security without needing to become a Microsoft security expert.

The problem

Most Microsoft 365 risks are not dramatic. They are settings no one has reviewed for months.

Microsoft 365 changes all the time. Staff join and leave. Admins add exceptions. Security defaults get changed. Apps request access. Policies drift. Before long, the setup you thought was secure no longer matches the risk.

Attackers love that gap. They do not always need malware. Sometimes they just need an over-privileged account, weak MFA coverage, risky guest access or a policy exception that nobody remembers approving.

What we often see

  • MFA is enabled, but not consistently enforced across all key accounts.
  • Admin accounts have more access than they need.
  • Old users, stale accounts or guest access remain active.
  • Conditional Access policies have exceptions that weaken protection.
  • Microsoft 365 settings drift over time after someone “temporarily” changes them.
  • No one is fully confident what good looks like anymore.
Microsoft Secure Score

Secure Score can show the gap. Huntress Managed ISPM helps close it.

Microsoft Secure Score is useful. It gives you visibility, highlights recommended improvements and helps show whether your Microsoft 365 security posture is moving in the right direction.

The problem is what happens next. A score does not harden your tenant. A dashboard does not test the impact of a policy. A list of recommendations does not keep settings enforced when Microsoft 365 changes again.

A score is not the same as hardening

A higher score can feel reassuring, but it can still leave important questions unanswered.

  • Which recommendations matter most to your organisation?
  • Which settings could affect staff or break workflows?
  • Which risks are identity issues rather than general Microsoft admin tasks?
  • Which fixes have been applied, tested and kept in place?

Secure Score gives you the warning light. Huntress Managed ISPM helps with the hardening work behind it.

Why Secure Score gets stuck

In many organisations, Secure Score does not stall because people do not care. It stalls because the jump from “we can see the issue” to “we have fixed it safely” takes time, confidence and Microsoft 365 expertise.

That is the exact gap Huntress talks about with ISPM: visibility is useful, but hardening is the actual work.

Awareness

Secure Score and posture tools show what looks wrong.

Prioritisation

Someone still needs to decide what matters most.

Hardening

Risky settings need fixing without locking people out.

Enforcement

Controls need to stay in place as Microsoft 365 changes.

A better score is nice. A hardened Microsoft 365 tenant is better.

Huntress Managed ISPM is designed to move Microsoft 365 security from visibility into action: finding identity gaps, helping close them, and reducing the chance that configuration drift quietly reopens the door later.

What ISPM means

Identity Security Posture Management is about fixing the doors before someone walks through them.

ISPM stands for Identity Security Posture Management. In plain English, it continuously checks identity settings, permissions and policies to find risky gaps before they become incidents.

1

Find risky settings

Spot misconfigurations, weak identity controls, policy gaps and drift across Microsoft 365.

2

Prioritise what matters

Focus on identity risks attackers are most likely to use, rather than drowning in generic recommendations.

3

Keep posture consistent

Reduce the chance that accidental or unapproved changes quietly weaken your environment over time.

Simple version

Huntress ISPM helps harden Microsoft 365 before Huntress ITDR has to catch an active identity attack.

ISPM is proactive. ITDR is detection and response. Together, they give you a stronger identity security story: reduce the weak spots first, then monitor for suspicious behaviour if someone still gets through.

What Huntress Managed ISPM helps with

A managed approach to Microsoft 365 hardening.

Misconfigurations

Find risky Microsoft 365 identity settings that leave accounts more exposed than they need to be.

Policy drift

Spot changes that move you away from your intended security baseline.

MFA gaps

Highlight where multi-factor authentication is not enforced as strongly as it should be.

Privilege creep

Reduce the risk of accounts carrying more access than their role needs.

Risky access

Improve visibility over accounts, permissions, guest access and identity-related weak spots.

Expert-led remediation

Huntress takes a managed approach, so you are not left with a dashboard and no time to act.

Local support

Huntress ISPM support for Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Sheffield and South Yorkshire businesses.

Black Swan Cyber Security Solutions helps local organisations make sense of Microsoft 365 security without getting buried in admin portals, licensing confusion and technical guesswork.

A good fit if...

  • You rely heavily on Microsoft 365.
  • You are not sure whether your tenant is hardened properly.
  • You need better answers for cyber insurance or supplier questionnaires.
  • You want identity security improved without adding more internal workload.
  • You already use Huntress ITDR and want to strengthen the proactive side.

Not the right fit if...

  • You do not use Microsoft 365.
  • You want a one-off audit and no ongoing posture management.
  • You are not willing to fix risky identity settings when they are found.
  • You need a full enterprise IAM or PAM replacement.
Quick guide

Do you need Huntress ISPM, a Microsoft 365 licence upgrade, or both?

This is a simple way to think about it, but if you are not sure, that is completely normal and we are happy to guide you.

Start with ISPM

You already have Microsoft 365 security features, but you are not confident they are set up or maintained properly.

  • You are unsure what your current licence actually includes.
  • Security settings have evolved over time without clear ownership.
  • MFA is in place, but not consistently enforced.
  • You want to tighten what you already have before adding more.

Why this works: Improves your real-world security quickly without increasing licence costs straight away.

Consider a licence upgrade

Your current Microsoft 365 plan does not include the controls you need.

  • You are on Business Standard or a lower tier.
  • You need Conditional Access, stronger identity controls or advanced security features.
  • Insurance or client requirements expect certain capabilities.
  • You are missing key building blocks rather than just configuration.

Why this works: Gives you access to the security controls that are not available in your current plan.

Best approach for many organisations

A combination of the right licence and proper posture management.

  • You already have Business Premium, E3, E5, A3 or A5.
  • You want both capability and consistency.
  • You need better answers for cyber insurance or supplier checks.
  • You want fewer gaps for attackers to exploit and better visibility if something looks wrong.

Why this works: Reduces risk from both missing controls and misconfiguration.

You do not have to guess this.

We can review your current Microsoft 365 setup, explain what your licence gives you, and help you decide whether Huntress ISPM, a licence upgrade, or a combination makes the most sense.

FAQs

Huntress Managed ISPM FAQs

What is Huntress Managed ISPM?

Huntress Managed ISPM is a managed identity security posture management solution for Microsoft 365. It helps find and fix risky identity settings, misconfigurations and configuration drift.

Is ISPM the same as ITDR?

No. ISPM is proactive hardening and posture management. ITDR is active detection and response for suspicious identity activity. They work well together.

Why do we need ISPM if we already use MFA?

MFA is important, but it does not automatically mean your Microsoft 365 identity setup is hardened. ISPM can help find gaps, exceptions, risky policies and drift that MFA alone does not solve.

Is Microsoft Secure Score enough?

No. Microsoft Secure Score is useful for visibility, but it is not the same as having Microsoft 365 properly hardened, monitored and maintained. Huntress Managed ISPM helps move from recommendations to practical hardening and ongoing posture management.

Why does Microsoft Secure Score get stuck?

Secure Score often gets stuck because the remaining recommendations need planning, testing, licence checks or careful rollout. The issue is not always awareness. It is the time and expertise needed to apply controls safely and keep them enforced.

Is Microsoft 365 secure out of the box?

Microsoft 365 includes strong security capabilities, but they still need to be configured, reviewed and maintained properly. Settings, policies and permissions can drift over time.

Does Huntress ISPM work best with Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3, E5, A3 or A5?

Yes, it is likely to be most useful where your Microsoft 365 licensing gives you access to stronger identity and security controls. Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3, E5, A3 and A5 are common environments where identity hardening, policy review and posture management make a lot of sense.

Can Huntress ISPM still help if we have Microsoft 365 Business Standard?

It may still help highlight identity and configuration risks, but some remediation options may depend on the Microsoft licences you have. If your licence does not include the right security features, we can help you understand whether upgrading to Business Premium or an education/enterprise equivalent would be sensible.

Who is Huntress ISPM best suited to?

It is well suited to organisations that rely on Microsoft 365 and want managed support improving identity security posture, especially where internal IT time or specialist security knowledge is limited.

Can Black Swan help us deploy Huntress ISPM?

Yes. Black Swan Cyber Security Solutions can help position Huntress ISPM within your wider cyber security stack and support businesses across Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Sheffield, South Yorkshire and the wider UK.

When is Huntress ISPM more cost-effective than upgrading Microsoft 365 licences?

It depends on what problem you are trying to solve.

If your current Microsoft 365 setup already includes useful security features, but no one has the time or confidence to review and maintain them properly, Huntress ISPM can often deliver quicker improvements than jumping straight to a higher licence tier.

In many cases, the gap is not capability. It is configuration, consistency and ongoing review. That is where ISPM helps.

A licence upgrade can still make sense where specific controls are missing. The difference is that ISPM helps you get value from what you already have first, and then make a more informed decision about whether an upgrade is actually needed.
