Community & Social Impact
Proudly supporting people, schools and care providers – online and in the Derbyshire & South Yorkshire communities.
Cyber security with local roots, not just a local address.
Black Swan Cyber Security Solutions is proudly based in Chesterfield, but our community work started long before the business name existed. We support the schools, care providers, small businesses and local groups that help Derbyshire and South Yorkshire thrive.
Community is not a side project for us.
It is a big part of why Black Swan exists.
Founder Kevin Walker has spent over 20 years supporting schools, care providers and small businesses across Derbyshire and beyond. His experience as a school governor and parish councillor helped shape the sectors we specialise in today: education, care and local enterprise.
That local focus matters. We are not trying to be a faceless national cyber security brand. We work with organisations that have real responsibilities, real pressure and limited time to get cyber security right.
Why care is personal
Kevin’s mum, mother-in-law and uncle all live with dementia. That is one of the reasons we care so deeply about helping care organisations protect their data, their residents and their families’ trust.
For us, cyber security is not just about devices, alerts and compliance. It is about protecting people.
Local projects we are proud to have supported
Giving back does not always need to be complicated. Sometimes it means rolling your sleeves up, joining the right people together and helping a good local project get moving.
#HeroesOfHeat at Monkey Park CIC
Kevin led a national team of engineers to replace the heating and hot-water systems at Monkey Park CIC, with donations from Viessmann, Plumbase and Spirotech.
Friends of Monkey Park
As Chair, Kevin helped redevelop the park and play area, adding modern play equipment, benches, picnic tables and planters funded through community grants.
More Chesterfield play areas
Kevin helped launch and advise Friends groups for Badger Park, Brushfield Park and Stanford Way, supporting projects to replace and improve three further play areas.
Safer access to Brampton Primary School
Kevin supported a project with Monkey Park CIC and local councillors to replace an overgrown cut-through with a safer, purpose-built footpath.
Table tennis in the park
Kevin secured a £5,000 Community Infrastructure Levy grant from Chesterfield Borough Council to install a public outdoor table tennis table.
Supporting local families
Many of these projects are about small, practical improvements: safer spaces, better facilities and more reasons for families to spend time together locally.

Dementia friendly and care focused
Our work with the care sector is rooted in lived experience, plain English and kindness. Care teams already carry enough pressure. Cyber security should help them protect people, not add another burden.
- Dementia Friendly Chesterfield: we are proud to support Dementia Friendly Chesterfield and promote small, practical actions that make life easier for people living with dementia.
- Care homes and providers: we help care organisations work towards DSPT and wider data-protection requirements, keeping residents’ information safe and building trust with families.
- Support without blame: we use clear, calm language when talking about cyber risk, so teams feel supported rather than criticised.
Responsible business, local leadership and practical cyber support
Black Swan is part of Bitz ’n’ PC’z Ltd, a Chesterfield Constituency Responsible Business Champion. We are also proud to be a Chesterfield Champion through Destination Chesterfield, helping promote our town as a great place to live, work and invest.
- Schools and MATs: we help education settings understand DfE cyber standards, RPA cyber cover conditions and practical steps that support teaching and safeguarding.
- Small businesses and trades: we support local businesses with cyber protection that fits real-world budgets, workloads and insurance questions.
- Apprentices and early-career professionals: we mentor people who want to build a future in IT and cyber security.
- Free tools, guides and checklists: we publish useful cyber security resources without forcing people through email gates.
“Everything we do at Black Swan is rooted in real life — protecting the same schools where I once served as governor and supporting care homes like those my own family rely on. Giving back locally isn’t a policy for us. It’s personal.”Kevin Walker, Founder of Black Swan Cyber Security Solutions
How this fits with the way we run the business
This page shows some of the people and projects we care about. Our responsible business statement explains how we think about governance, community, cyber resilience and long-term trust.
Working on a community, care or education project?
If your organisation is doing something positive locally and needs practical technical support, we would be happy to hear about it. We cannot support every project, but we are always open to sensible conversations with people trying to make a difference.
