Cyber security that works in the real world. For your business, your budget, and your reality.
Whether you’re a small business, school, care provider, or trades professional, robust protection helps you operate confidently, stay compliant, and grow - without sleepless nights over threats or audits.
You just want your business to run without cyber getting in the way
You are not trying to become a cyber security expert. You have a business to run, people to look after and customers relying on you.
But cyber keeps creeping into the conversation. Insurance renewals. Client requirements. Compliance questions. A suspicious email. A backup you are not completely sure has been tested.
You just want to know what is protected, what is exposed and what needs fixing first, without cyber security becoming another full-time job.
That is where Black Swan helps.
What we hear all the time
- “Our IT company handles all that… I think.”
- “We’ve got antivirus and backups, so we should be fine.”
- “We passed Cyber Essentials once, isn’t that enough?”
- “We’ve never had an issue before.”
- “We’d know if something was wrong… wouldn’t we?”
Most businesses aren’t being careless. They’re just busy, and cyber ends up sitting somewhere in the background.
What we often find when we take a proper look
Most organisations do not ignore cyber security on purpose. More often, they are busy, they assume the basics are covered, and nobody has had the time to step back and check what is actually in place.
Things look covered on paper
- Antivirus is in place, but nobody is really watching what it finds
- Backups exist, but have not been tested properly
- MFA is switched on, but there is little visibility into suspicious sign-ins
- Email protection relies too heavily on default settings
The gaps show up under pressure
- Shared accounts are still being used because they are convenient
- Staff are busy and have to make quick decisions
- Security conversations only happen when an insurer, auditor or customer asks
- Recovery sounds straightforward until something actually needs restoring
Where small gaps become bigger problems
- Security tools are in place, but nobody is really watching them
- Backups exist, but haven’t been tested under pressure
- Accounts are shared or not properly secured
- Staff are busy and make quick decisions under pressure
- Everything looks fine until it isn’t
What that turns into
- Unexpected downtime
- Lost or exposed data
- Insurance complications
- Stress and disruption across the business
- Time spent firefighting instead of running the business
You don’t need more tools. You need clarity.
Most of the time, the problem isn’t a lack of technology. It’s not knowing what’s actually working, what isn’t, and what would happen if something went wrong.
Once you have that clarity, everything becomes simpler. Decisions are easier. Conversations with insurers and clients are easier. You can move forward with confidence instead of guesswork.
A simple way to get control of cyber security
1. Understand where you are now
We look at your email, Microsoft 365, devices, backups, accounts and current security tools so you can see what is actually in place.
2. Decide what matters most
We explain the gaps in plain English and help you prioritise the fixes that reduce the most risk without overcomplicating things.
3. Put sensible protection in place
We help you strengthen the right areas, whether that means better monitoring, stronger email security, safer accounts, tested backups or ongoing guidance.
Then keep it manageable
Cyber security changes over time. We help you keep a clear view of what is working, what has changed and what needs attention next.
You do not have to work this out alone
We work alongside businesses like yours to give you a clear view of where you stand and what actually matters.
- Clear visibility of your current position
- Practical recommendations, not theory
- Support that fits around how your business already works
- Ongoing guidance when things change
We’re not here to overwhelm you or replace what you already have. We’re here to make it all make sense.
How we help in practice
The right approach isn’t about adding tools at random. It’s about using the right ones in the right places to reduce risk, spot issues early, respond properly and make sure recovery is possible if something goes wrong.
You do not need to choose all of this yourself. These are the kinds of tools and services we may recommend when they fit the problem. The starting point is always your risk, your budget and what you need to protect.

- You’re not second-guessing decisions
- Insurance and compliance conversations are straightforward
- Your team can work without unnecessary friction
- You can focus on running the business
And just as importantly…
- You’re not lying awake wondering “what if”
- You’re not scrambling when something unexpected happens
- You’ve got someone to call who understands your setup
Who we work with
Cyber security is not one-size-fits-all. The right approach depends on your budget, your day-to-day pressures, the data you hold and the standards you need to meet.
Small and growing businesses
For organisations that need stronger protection without taking on enterprise costs or complexity.
Schools and Multi-Academy Trusts
For education settings managing sensitive data while working around DfE requirements, stretched budgets and busy teams.
Nurseries, preschools and after-school clubs
For settings protecting children’s records, safeguarding notes, parent details and payment information.
Care homes and domiciliary care providers
For organisations handling sensitive resident and service-user data in tightly regulated environments.
Public sector and community organisations
For teams balancing accountability, limited resources and the responsibility of protecting vulnerable people and important services.
Trades and construction professionals
For businesses that need practical protection, Cyber Essentials support and sensible controls that work in the real world.
Who this is for
- You want sensible cyber support without the jargon
- You need practical help, not a pile of tools you have to work out yourself
- You care about keeping the business running, not just ticking a box
- You want clarity on what is in place, what is missing and what matters most
Probably not for you if…
- You are only looking for the cheapest box-ticking option
- You want to buy tools without any real thought about risk or recovery
- You are happy to rely on guesswork and hope for the best
- You want a faceless provider rather than a proper working relationship
Questions we get asked
Do we need a full IT team to improve cyber security?
No. Most smaller organisations do not have in-house cyber specialists. The important thing is understanding your risks, closing the obvious gaps and getting the right support around you.
Can you work alongside our existing IT provider?
Yes. In many cases, that is exactly how we work. We are not here to replace good IT support. We help strengthen the security side and add clarity where it is needed.
Is this only for larger organisations?
Not at all. A lot of the organisations we work with are smaller businesses and teams that need practical protection without enterprise-level cost or complexity.
What if we already have antivirus, backup or Microsoft 365 security in place?
That is common. The question is whether those controls are configured properly, monitored properly and strong enough for the risks your organisation actually faces.
Do you only work with certain sectors?
No, but we do a lot of work with small businesses, schools, nurseries, care providers, public sector organisations, community organisations and trades.
What does a first conversation involve?
Usually a straightforward chat about your current setup, where your concerns are and what would actually make a difference. No jargon. No pressure.
Start with a simple conversation
No pitch. No pressure. Just a straightforward look at where you are today and what would actually make a difference.
